Hemp seeds are obtained from the hemp plant which also provides the well known hemp durable fiber. Since hemp seeds are edible they are used to in the preparation of a number of items. Hemp plant is grouped under the Cannabis plant family. However, it has very low content of THC. THC is classified as a drug in most countries and even industrial hemp has drug-like uses. History of Hemp seeds

For many centuries, hemp has been harvested in Asia and Middle East for its fiber. In the West, the commercial cultivation of hemp commenced only in the 18th century and was solely precipitated due to ever expanding demand for hemp ropes by the navy for its expansion.

  • The fundamental composition of hemp seeds contains many important fatty acids that cannot be weighed against other oil sources such as vegetable oils or nuts. Hemp seeds are abundant in fatty acids like omega 6, linoleic acid, omega 3, and alpha-linolenic acids
  • Hemp seeds inhibit the growth of bacteria and destroy ringworm and other parasites.
  • Hemp seeds are very helpful at the time of childbirth, in blood deficiency treatments and in increasing breast-milk flow after childbirth.

  • Hemp seeds contain miniscule amounts of THC which can cause undesirable side effects in some people
  • Consumption of hemp seeds in combination with anticoagulant drugs can suppress platelets and increase the vulnerability to bleeding. Hence, it is essential to consult a physician before hemp seeds intake.
  • A sensitive digestive tract may find it difficult to digest hemp seeds to the abundant presence of fats and oils in them. This can lead to gastrointestinal system problems and mild diarrhea.
  • Some hemp seeds may have a high concentration of THC, which upon consumption can result in temporary euphoria and hallucinations.
